A Manufactured Entertainment

This past Memorial Day weekend, as I drove from Riverside to Los Angeles on the 60 freeway - with this essay in mind - I noticed two major elements in that one hour drive; I passed through hundreds of fast food restaurants and hundreds of entertainment spots. We are literally surrounded by all kinds of food and entertainment. It seems that all we do is eat and amuse ourselves in some form. Once I reached my destination, home, I found another great source of entertainment and leisure; the television set. Within a couple minutes of channel surfing through the hundreds of channels on the TV set, I was in a state of boredom, nothing seemed to appeal my taste. But why? Am I the problem? Or is entertainment so abundant that it has lost its significance? The American way of life has become a manufactured element just like all other aspects of Americana today.
