A Case Study, on the Affect of Human Activity on a Coastal Environment.

The coastal environment at Mt. Maunganui to Tay St. has been changed by modified by human activity. The extent of the changes can be determined be the effect on the different high order processes, their related sub-processes, and the interaction of the processes together. Often when one process had been modified the other processes are also affected. These processes include Geomorphilogical, Hydrological, Climatological, Pedological, and Biogeographical.
Firstly, under the Geomorphilogical and Hydrological processes is the change in the nature of the impact of the wave. This affected by the creation of artificial barriers. An example of this is at Tay St. where there is a proposed idea of building an artificial reef about 200m offshore. The extent of the effects of this reef on the natural processes is that it will direct the wave energy to a specific site.
