¡°Winter Dreams and the American Dream¡±

What will someone do to obtain the American dream? The dream can be many things to many different people, but everyone does have some sort of goal that they want to accomplish in their life. In F. Scott Fitzgerald¡¯s short story ¡°Winter Dreams¡± a precursor for his novel ¡°The Great Gatsby¡±, Fitzgerald shows his reader what people are willing to do to live the American Dream. The American Dream is defined throughout his short story and emphasized in his novel. ¡°Winter Dreams¡± takes you through Decker¡¯s life and the reader watches him make everyday choices that will ultimately determine his future. It begins with him caddying at fourteen and continues through his gain of wealth in the laundering business and ends with his sadness over losing what he loved to chase someone who never really loved him anyways.
