“Wife of Bath Response Essay”

Chaucer’s story of the Wife of Bath is a tale about a woman, named Guinievere, who married five times; the first three for money and land and the last two for love. However by the end of the story, the last husband has beat her and she finds that she is not in control of the marriage as she thought she was. Guinievere’s behavior is not common of the Medieval time that she lived in; a woman was expected to be loyal to their husbands and had little control in a marriage and were to be submissive to men. Today women’s lives a quite different, they are not entitled to be submissive to their husbands or men in general.
