*“American Airlines Flight 11, carrying 81 passengers and 11 crew members, slammed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan shortly before 9a.m. About 15 minutes later, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston to Los Angeles, with 56 passengers and nine crew members on board crashed into the south tower.”
*“A half hour after the second crash, American Flight 77 took off from Washington, D.C.’s Dulles Airport en route to San Francisco, carrying 58 passengers and six crew members–but crashed into the Pentagon instead. Less than a hour after the third crash, United Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, with 38 passengers and seven crew aboard.”
*“President Bush calls the crashes “a nation tragedy.”
*Landmarks across the world were evacuated.
*President Bush stated in the address to the nation “Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts.” “Today we’ve had a national tragedy,” Bush stated even as the situation continued to unfold and the attacks continued. “Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country.”(Source: www.cnn.com)
These were just a few of the things that we heard on September 11th, 2001. We watched in aw as the media showed the two planes crashing into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center. This was the day that the world stopped turning and time stood still. We were all afraid. Was this only the beginning? No, the was the means to an end.
