The poem ¡§The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock¡¨ by T. S. Eliot is one of the most famous poems of the twentieth century; it has been described as a refection of spiritual emptiness and emotional paralysis. A poignant picture of an insecure man searching for love results from Eliot¡¦s reflective central character, his incoherent plot, his provocative theme, his artful figurative language, and his sympathetic attitude. It is a poem about a lonely man, Prufrock, who cannot reconcile his thoughts and understanding with his feelings and will, who fails the courage to confess his love to the woman he love. The poem displays several levels if irony, the most important of which grows out of vain, weak man¡¦s insights into his sterile life and his lack of will to change his life. Prufrock is afraid of being rejected and he doesn¡¦t want to take any chances to try.
