“The criminal law is perfect. No changes are required in Victoria”. Discuss.

In our society criminal law plays a major part within the community. Even though we would like to say that the criminal law in Victoria is perfect we are able to see that it is not.
If the criminal law had of been perfect then there would have been no Crimes Act. The fact that the criminal law was not right and judges were making many mistakes, parliament had to introduce The Crimes Act 1958 (Vic). In the early 1980’s women who got raped were on trail and not the person who committed the crime. I mean what fairness did this give women back in those days. Now that parliament has passed the laws we are able to convict criminals for their crimes. However, when we say a criminal has been punished for his/her crime we come to the understanding that they are being punished severely and they become aware not to commit the crime again. What we do not see is when the punishment is ten years, the accused will not serve his whole ten years, and they will only do a maximum of five years. They e...
