“Our textbooks do not support process writing.” Discuss

Textbooks form an integral part of the Singapore teaching process, especially for the teaching of primary level English. The textbooks contain instructions and materials in the form of exercises and others which are used extensively during the classroom instructional process. In the past, all textbooks used in schools were exclusively authored and published by a special unit made up of experienced teachers within the Ministry of Education. The content and materials in these textbooks were all in accordance to the syllabus set by the ministry. Recent changes have led to private publishers taking over the publication of textbooks. The ministry still controls the syllabus but each school is now free to choose the textbooks they want to teach within their school. As a result, there are myriad of textbooks available in the market place for school’s selection.
