In Shakespeare’s Othello it is not only Othello and Iago who was responsible for Othello’s downfall but also other characters throughout the play. It was Othello’s passion that got the best of him and it was Iago who used Othello’s weakness to break his self-control.

Othello’s passion was one of the main causes of his downfall due to the fact that it consumed him so much that he lost his self-control his judgement and faith over Desdemona. It is the green-eyed monster that feeds through him which leads him to see images of Desdemona and Cassio together and actually believing it true, so true that he contradicts what he says that he will need ocular proof before he acts. It wasn’t only his thoughts but also situations such as the lost handkerchief and Cassio confessing to Iago were proof enough for Othello to decide to kill Cassio and his faithful wife Desdemona.
