"If a society is to thrive, it must put its own overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens."

Because a strong and prosperous society is often a round-developed one, it always pays more attention for the well-being o its individual citizens. But whether a developing society als
o should concert it? Somebody argues that if a society is to thrive, it must put its own overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens. On the surface, it may seem an reasonable argument that we should work hard for a thrived society firstly and then enjoy the fruits we have planted. But on a closer examination, we find several problems the argument has. Although sometimes we may sacrifice some peoples¡¯ well-being at the moment in order to protect the long-term benefits of the major people, it is not necessary for a society to give up the well-being of its individual citizens when it just begins to thrive.
