On February 2, 1986 26-year-old Anita was walking home from Blacktown station when she was abducted by a carful of men, who repeatedly gang raped Anita before slitting her throat and leaving her in a paddock to die alone and in much pain. It was then a good 15 years later curator Lisa Havilah approached the Lynches (Anita’s parents) and discussed an exhibition about a girl stemming from the brutal rape and murder to be known as Anita & Beyond.

The exhibition is a collection of Anita Cobby’s personal items, photographs, letters and oral histories from friends, family and people connected with the case, plus original artworks from a dozen artists commissioned to investigate through art their own reactions to the event. Some artists were selected because they were from western Sydney and others because they deal with social history.
