Shylock is portrayed as the ruthless, greedy villain of the Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare makes him the scapegoat and the object of ridicule throughout the play. This both, establishes the barrier between Shylock and the other characters.
In the Merchant of Venice the antagonist of the play is Shylock.
Shylock is a wealthy Jewish moneylender. He is probably the most
memorable character in the play because of Shakespeare's excellent
characterisation of him.
