"Almost a Man"

Regarding "Almost a Man" in the final paragraph I
believe what the author was trying to show that the boy
thinks that he is now a man since he has the gun. Dave
thinks that the gun is equivalent to his manhood and
this is not true, but since he see all the men in the
fields carrying and shooting guns he feels this will
give him a man status. Dave has this crazy idea that if
he had a gun he will be a man and with this gun he would
be able to impress other men and friends with his
shooting skills and the cleanness of his gun. Dave not
once thought that he is naturally born a man and
secondly that his father mentor and molder is a mna ,
husband and father; does not carry a gun. Dave is
protrayed in this story as a confused young man that
wants to be view as a man and he is frustrated that
everyone that comes in contact with his idea of owing a
gun remarks "But your nothing but a boy". Dave wants to
gain respect and status form the elders and his friends
