"Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use."

Academic discipline is the course of study which deals with a particular subject deeply and extensively. The number of academic disciplines that are available for a student to pursue are numerous. By specialization we mean the scope of the discipline. If a course is highly specialized then an extensive and deep understanding of a particular subject is done.

The academic disciplines which are specialized give us specialists. We are in a world that is so developed that no more discoveries or inventions are possible by generalists. Someone who has a profound knowledge in a subject only can delve deep into the issue to give us any tangible results. Present day scientific studies are out of the realm of the generalists. The compelling point is that the scientific progress in most of the fields of interest has reached that point that no influence can be made by generalists further...
