"A Rose for Emily"

William Faulkner’s story takes place in the late 1800’s in Jefferson. Emily is the central character, who has had insanity run in her family. Emily lived with her father in a big house, and they were well-known throughout the townspeople. When Emily’s father dies, Colonel Sartoris remitted her taxes, for he said that her father had loaned money to the town. As this generation ended and the next one begins, with more modern ideas the townspeople started to disapprove this notion, and brought conflict to the town.
