What is the purpose of the film?

The purpose of the critically acclaimed 8 Mile starring controversial rapper Eminem and directed by the well-established Curtis Hanson of ‘LA Confidential’ fame is to show a white rapper’s struggle for respect and survival in the tough side of Detroit, Michigan in the USA. The movie is also a semi-autobiographical piece based on Eminem’s life before becoming famous. The film deals with James ‘Rabbit’ Smith, Jnr’s (Eminem) harsh and cold attitude towards life and people in higher roles than himself. The world seems to hate him and he hates it more. The significance of the title 8 Mile is that there is a road in Detroit called 8 Mile Rd and is what separates the rich people from the poor people in the city.
