4. What is the relationship between the narrative coherence and visual effects in ‘The Matrix?’




"The Matrix", written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski, is a cyber adventure full of visual effects supporting the narrative coherence. Without the visual effects the appearance and the redefining of the nature of reality in the film would not have been as convincing and spectacular. Visual effects are not necessary in any movie for the narrative coherence because they do not define or explain the narrative but because they are strongly linked to it and in case of ‘The Matrix’ even stronger (because it deals with a virtual world/reality using special effects to create a world of illusion) they support the narrative coherence.
