2 year old observation

While I was watching a 2-year-old girl attempt to blow up a plastic toy guitar, and then try to fit it into her ear, I was definitely reminded of a theory of child development. It was the cognitive-developmental theory by Jean Piaget (1896-1980), which is described by children actively constructing knowledge as they manipulate and explore their world, and their cognitive development is taking place in stages. The first stage, the sensorimotor stage, covers birth to 2 years, and the second, the preoperational stage, covers 2 – 7 years. Then the third, the concrete operational stage, covers 7 – 11 years, and the fourth, the formal operational stage, covers 11 years and older. Since I was observing a 2 year old, I only want to relate to the first and second stages.
