26th ammendment

the twenty sixth amendement1971)to the consitution of the united states is the fourth of the amendments to clarify voting rights (others are the fifteenth amendment, and the twenty third amendment . This amendment states that the right of the citizens 18 years or older to vote "Shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or by any state on account of age."
The passage of this amendment was spurred by the massive protest in the 1960s of students and other young regarding the war in vietnam. In response to the argument. "If we're old enought to fight, we're old enought to vote." this amendment was adopted: it reduced the voting age from 21 to 18 years old and provided the apportunity for younger people to participate in the political process and to havea voting voice in the affairs of government.
