ways are they representative of her mental processes and the ultimate meaning
of Larsen's novel?

¡°Quicksand¡± by Nella Larsen is an exploration of the many decisions made by Helga Krane, our main character. We follow Helga from her life as a teacher at Naxos, a school that was seen as ¡°a show in the black belt¡± (Chapter 1). From Naxos we watch Helga as she takes many paths towards the conclusion of the novel where we are shown Helga wrestling and procrastinating with the many decisions that she has taken that have brought her to this final, unfulfilling climax.
To understand the meaning of the novel and also the mental process that Helga Krane goes through this paper will examine two major decisions that Helga took throughout the duration of the novel, and how they affected her and our understanding of the overall meaning of the novel.
