1984 the totalitarian Regime

The city that Winston Smith lives in is reminiscent of a totalitarian, or communist governed state. The concept by which the country is governed is the ideal communist regime. Beginning with the slogan "Big Brother is Watching You" posted everywhere as Stalin and Hussein have done in their respective countries. There are no laws in Oceania, so the citizens always remain fearful that they might do or say, or even think, something harmful to the state and the party. Not having laws written down serves two purposes. First it keeps the citizens fearful and therefore easily controlled; second; it allows the party to change policy without having to admit that it has changed. To exist as a state, ...
