1. A Meaningful Passage:
“He…drew the next batch of work toward him, with the scrap of paper on top of it. He flattened it out. On it was written, in a large unformed handwriting:
I love you. ”
This passage from 1984, written by George Orwell, was (in my opinion) the most significant passage in the novel because it was Julia’s first confession of her love to Winston. Its significance lies in the danger they both faced once the truth was out in the open. This left them both vulnerable to the Thought Police and more importantly, death.
